UNLV To Help Three Square's Food Drive

Jan. 14, 2009

LAS VEGAS - UNLV Athletics will support Three Square's community-wide food drive from 2-5 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 17 in front of the Thomas & Mack Center, before its men's basketball team hosts Wyoming at 7 p.m. for its annual "Pack The Mack" Night. Balcony tickets for the game are just $7.

President-elect Obama is calling upon Americans to join forces and renew America together by making a difference in their local communities. This national weekend of service is in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. and will take place Saturday-Monday, Jan. 17-19. President-elect Obama built his successful presidential campaign on the notion of bringing hope to Americans through change. This weekend of service is his first official call to action for the American public, and Three Square is hopeful that many Americans will choose to help feed the hungry by supporting the food drive. Feeding America has been invited by the Presidential Inaugural Committee to be a national partner for "Renewing America Together" and has called upon Three Square to join them and UNLV is supporting that effort.

Three Square was established to end hunger in the valley by providing wholesome, nutritious meals to non-profit organizations that serve a wide range of Southern Nevadans in need. Three Square is a community collaborative partnership with the gaming industry, businesses, non-profit agencies, food distributors, UNLV, the Clark County School District, governmental entities, the media and hundreds of volunteers to efficiently and effectively serve hope to the hungry.

An information booth and barrels will be set up at the entrance to the Thomas & Mack Center where guests can drop off food and be entered into a chance to win tickets for that evening's Runnin' Rebel game.

"Three Square is an outstanding organization that we have worked with before," UNLV head men's basketball coach Lon Kruger said. "They provide a much-needed service in our community by helping to get food to those who are hungry and we are happy to help in any way we can. We hope our fans will participate in this worthy cause on their way to our game Saturday night against Wyoming."

Fans are encouraged to use the "print at home" feature when purchasing tickets online at UNLVtickets.com. The "print at home" feature is a very convenient benefit to customers as it eliminates waiting in line to purchase or pick-up tickets at the ticket office.

Tickets may also purchased by calling 702-739-FANS or by visiting the Thomas & Mack Center ticket office, Monday through Friday 10 a.m.-6 p.m. and on Saturday, 10 a.m. to tipoff.

The Runnin' Rebels have an overall record of 13-3 this season and are 1-1 in Mountain West Conference play. UNLV will play at Colorado State on Wednesday night before hosing Wyoming on Saturday.
