LAS VEGAS - The 39th-ranked UNLV women's tennis team slipped by an old nemesis to open a doubleheader at a windy Fertitta Tennis Complex on Sunday.

The Lady Rebels improved to 2-0 on the young season by using their depth to down former Big West Conference rival Pacific 4-3. The Tigers fell to 1-1. UNLV will take on Weber State later Sunday.

UNLV won the key doubles point by taking two of three matches to start the morning. Kristina Nedeltcheva and Katy Williams teamed up for an 8-6 win at the top spot while Alisa Razina and Anna Maskaljun doubled up their opponents 8-4 on court two.

In singles, UOP got wins at the top two positions and another on court six. Williams scored with a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Svenja Arens at No. 3 and Adrienn Hidvegi breezed by Clara Schuhmacher 6-1, 6-0 at No. 5. The match came down to the fourth spot where Maskaljun finally finished off Kateryna Nezhura 6-4, 4-6, 6-1 for the winning point.
