LAS VEGAS - The UNLV women's track and field team is on the road to Arizona for the second time this season Friday night and Saturday as they face off at the Mountain T Invitational hosted by Northern Arizona University.
Traveling with the Rebels for this weekend's meet will be 24 track and field student-athletes. A few of the Rebels will compete in Friday night's events, while the rest of the team will participate in Saturday's events that will begin at 8:00 am (PST).
"This is our next step in the journey towards the MWC Championships," UNLV head coach Yvonne Scott-Williams said. "This meet bring tougher competition and a great chance for them to step it up a notch and really put themselves to the test." UNLV will compete against Mountain West Conference opponent San Diego State, along with host Northern Arizona University, Arizona State, Florida Atlantic and several others.
Senior sprinter Lekeisha Lawson, thrower Olivia Raya, high jumper Claire Schreiner and distance runners Jennifer Shearer and Isabella Stoate will lead the Rebels in the invitational. Lawson was able to set a career best in the 60 meters in the first meet of the season and is looking to continue a strong start to her senior season.
Others runners competing will include Shahnel Woodley, Meia Tezeno, Candise Maxwell, Chauncey David-Jacobs, Lindasy Roach, Zadia Bryant and Deja Edwards. On the field the UNLV will have Amanda Bingson and LaShante Ellison.
The final event of the day on Saturday is the women's 4x400 meter relay at 3:10 PM.
