LAS VEGAS - Chace Stanback led all scorers with 15 points and added a game-high-tying eight rebounds, while Oscar Bellfield added 11 points as the UNLV men's basketball team defeated Washburn, a NCAA Division II school from Kan., 62-52, in an exhibition game Tuesday night at the Thomas & Mack Center.
Derrick Jasper also had eight rebounds for the Runnin' Rebels and Anthony Marshall grabbed seven.
Washburn, led by Nate Wallace and Bobby Chipman with eight points apiece, held its biggest lead of the game, 37-30, with 14:43 to play in the second half. UNLV cut it to two on a Stanback layup with 12:51 left, but the Ichabods pushed the lead back to five, which would be the last time they would lead by that many.
UNLV used an 8-0 run over the next 3:30 capped off by a Kendall Wallace 3-pointer to take a 45-42 lead with 9:05 left.
Washburn hung around and held a one-point lead at 52-51 with 4:44 left when the Runnin' Rebels scored the game's final 11 points for the 10-point win.
Stanback, who was 6-for-14 from the field, and Bellfield, were the only two players in double figures in scoring for either team. Stanback, a transfer from UCLA, Jasper, a transfer from Kentucky, and Steve Jones, a transfer from Arizona State, all played their first game in a Runnin' Rebel uniform after sitting out the 2008-09 season.
It was UNLV's only exhibition game of the season. Washburn's William McNeill also had eight rebounds and De'Andre Washington added seven.
At halftime, the 20th anniversary of the 1990 National Championship team was recognized with most of that Runnin' Rebel team on hand and introduced on the Thomas & Mack Center floor. Following the game, former Runnin' Rebels competed in the annual Alumni Game.
