2010 UNLV Track & Field Schedule
LAS VEGAS - UNLV track and field released its 2010 schedule and the Rebels will open their outdoor season with their own Track Classic at Myron Partridge Stadium and Sheila Tarr-Smith Field, the athletics department announced on Thursday.
This will be the third season for the Rebels under track and field head coach Yvonne Scott. UNLV will compete in up to four regular-season indoor meets and the MWC Indoor Championships and is then slated to run in up to nine outdoor meets followed by the MWC Outdoor Championships.
"This season is all about giving the team an opportunity to compete against a variety of teams in different settings so that they will be best prepared to compete at the championships," Scott said. "For indoors this will be the first time I have taken the team to a 200-meter banked track, but it is necessary for them so that they will be ready to compete in Albuquerque. This year we have a large squad and it is important for us to give them a chance to feel the heat of competition. This is what is going to make us a stronger team."
The Rebels open their indoor season at the Lumberjack Invitational in Flagstaff, Ariz., on Jan. 16 and then will travel to the Lobo Invitational on January 29-30 in Albuquerque, N.M. UNLV closes out its indoor regular season on Feb. 13, with track athletes competing at either the Boise State Invitational or the Husky Invitational in Washington. The league championships are being hosted by New Mexico and begin on Feb. 26 and the NCAA Indoor Championships are March 12-13 at Fayetteville, Ark.
UNLV kicks off its outdoor season with the UNLV Track Classic on March 6, the only home meet of the season for the Rebels. From there they will become quite acquainted with the state of California, as six of a possible eight remaining track and field meets UNLV will attend are in the Golden State. UNLV closes out the month of March by competing in the Trojan Invitational in Los Angeles on March 20 and the Cal-Nevada Championships in Los Angeles on March 27-28.
The Rebels will head east to open up April, traveling to the Sun Angel Invitational on April 9-10 in Tempe, Ariz. UNLV returns to California the next weekend for the Beach Invitational in Cerritos on April 16, as well as the Mt. Sac Relays on April 17-18 in Walnut, and then the Rebels travel to the Triton Invitational in San Diego on April 23-24. UNLV will close out its outdoor regular season at either the Southern Utah University Invitational on May 1 in Cedar City, or at the Steve Scott Invitational in Irvine, Calif., on May 2.
The 2010 MWC Outdoor Championships are being hosted by New Mexico as well and will be held May 12-15 in Albuquerque, N.M. The NCAA West Regional is May 28-29 in Austin, Texas, and the 2010 NCAA Outdoor Championships are June 9-12 in Eugene, Ore.
