LAS VEGAS - UNLV's Kier Maitland was named the Mountain West Conference Men's Swimmer of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday.
Maitland, a junior and native of Edmonton, Alberta, claimed four individual wins this weekend, as he swept the 500 and 1000 free events against both BYU and Utah on the road, helping UNLV start out the season at 2-0 and undefeated in league action. His 500 free time of 4:32.37 against BYU on Oct. 30 is currently the 20th fastest in the nation, while he ranks ninth in the 1000 free after touching the wall in 9:19.91, which set a new BYU pool record.
The UNLV swimming and diving teams will return to action on Friday, as it takes on Arizona and Wisconsin in a tri-meet in Tucson at 2 pm.
