COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - UNLV finished the final day of competition at the Mountain West Conference Indoor Championships with an eighth-place finish on Saturday.
Senior Lekeisha Lawson had an outstanding day in her final two events, setting personal records in the 60 and 200 meters. Lawson was able to shine and ran to second-place finishes in both events. Lawson broke her previous record in the 60 (7.44) with a time of 7.42 and in the 200, she surpassed her career-best of 24.54 with an outstanding time of 24.18. Shahnel Woodley was the other Rebel to compete in the 200 meter, placing 6th at 24.78
In the 60 meter hurdles Candise Maxwell and Meia Tezeno had a third and fifth place finishes respectively. Maxwell was strong running at 8.42 and Tezeno clocked a time of 8.69.
UNLV's relay team which consisted of Lawson, Christine Lowe, Lindsay Roach and Tezeno took fifth place with a time of 3:56.35.
Claire Scheiner competed in the high jump placing 11th at 1.59m. Amanda Bingson threw the shot put to place in 17th, 12.08. In the triple jump event Portia Ford and Deja Edwards took a 17th and 19th place finish. Senior Jennifer Shearer represented the Rebels running in the 3000 meter run with a time of 10:57.46.
BYU won the indoor championships going away with 224 points, while Colorado State came in second with 61 points and New Mexico rounded out the top three with 53.
UNLV will now prepare to start the outdoor track and field season as the Rebels will host the UNLV Track and Field Classic on March 7th to kick off the outdoor season.
