LAS VEGAS - UNLV women's track and field team is hitting the road for the first time this outdoor season as they travel to Tucson, Ariz. to participate in the 27th Annual Willie Williams Classic on Friday and Saturday.
The University of Arizona is hosting the meet in which all the women on the track and field team will make the trip this weekend to Tucson expect for the Rebel distances runners.
Runners Lekeisha Lawson, Shahnel Woodley, Candise Maxwell and Chauncey David-Jacobs will be attempting a regional qualifying mark in the 400 meter relay. This will be David-Jacobs first meet back after being out with shin injuries. Freshman Leah Maurers will be participating in her second collegiate meet in the javelin and has already proved to be a strong force in this event.
"We are excited about what can happen at this meet, "said head coach Yvonne Scott-Williams. "We are close to a few regional marks in some events and this meet is a great weekend to try to achieve those".
The Rebels will face off against approximately 10 teams from across the nation, including teams like Utah State, Arizona, New Mexico State, Eastern Michigan, Northern Arizona and Mountain West Conference opponent Air Force.
Friday's events for the women will begin at 7:00 PM (PT) with the 400 meter hurdles. The women's field events will being with the hammer throw at around 4:30 PM (PT).
