LAS VEGAS - Six Rebels will be representing the 24th-ranked UNLV Rebels at this week's 2009 NCAA Men's Swimming and Diving Championships. This year's championship is being held from Thursday through Saturday at the Texas A&M Student Rec Center Natatorium in College Station, Texas.
Sophomore Kier Matiland, the MWC Swimmer of the Year, will be swimming two events. He is seeded 16th in the 1650 free with a time of 14:53.08, while his time of 4:20.75 is the 41st fastest in the field. Also competing in two events will be sophomore Akos Molnar, who is ranked 18th in both the 100 breast (53.28) and the 200 breast (1:55.70).
UNLV's sprinters will be in action at the championships, as Charlie Tapp, Thomas Andolfsson, Calan Eldridge and Steven Nelms will swim the 200 free relay. The Rebels' entry time of 1:17.61 is the 10th fastest for this week's meet. Swimming the 50 free as an individual event will be Andolfsson (seeded 37th in 19.63), Steven Nelms (41st, 19.64), and Tapp (67th, 19.96).
