Rebels Split Up For The Weekend

April 24, 2009

LAS VEGAS - UNLV women's track will split up and compete in a pair of meets this weekend, with Rebels traveling to both the Brutus Hamilton Invitational Friday and Saturday, and the Triton Invitational, which will take place on Saturday.

Cal Berkeley is hosting the Brutus Hamilton Invitational, which will take place at Edwards Stadium and will include Mountain West Conference opponents Air Force, New Mexico and San Diego State. Other competitors will be Fresno State, in-state rival Nevada, Reno, the University of Portland and Sacramento State.

Senior sprinter Lekeisha Lawson has proven to be a big asset for the Rebels this season, and she looks to continue to run well as she comes closer to ending her senior campaign. Junior Candise Maxwell will be looking to improve her regional marks in the 100 and 400 meter hurdles, while Lawson will be looking to improve her regional mark in the 100 meter dash.

Chauncey David-Jacobs will be back on the track after taking some time off and looks to come out strong in her first meet back, while freshman Christine Lowe will also be one to keep an eye on as she competes in the 400 meter hurdles. Both relay teams will be running this weekend.

Rebel throwers and jumpers will be heading to the University of California, San Diego to compete in the Triton Invitational. Senior thrower Olivia Raya is coming off a record-breaking performance last weekend, as she set the school mark in the hammer throw at the Mt. SAC Relays. In all, over 80 schools, countries, and elite athletes will be competing in the meet.
