LAS VEGAS - UNLV continues its outdoor track and field season this weekend as the women travel to the 2009 Mountain West Conference Championships which are being held in Laramie, Wyo., at the University of Wyoming.
About 18 UNLV track and field student-athletes will make the trek to Laramie, and this is the first time that the University of Wyoming will be host these championships.
Senior Lekeisha Lawson will run in the 100 and 200 meter dash as she performs in her last championships. Senior Jennifer Shearer will run in the 10,000 meter run and Olivia Raya will be on the field in the hammer throw.
"As a team we still have a ways to go but all the athletes have stepped it up a notch and we should get some great performances this weekend," said head coach Yvonne Scott-Williams. "Our goal is to put everyone in place to score and help with our team standing."
Jumpers Talyah Polee, Deja Edwards, Claire Schreiner and Portia Ford will be performing as well. Other distance runners that will be traveling to Laramie are senior Bailey Kuestermeyer and Isabelle Stoate. Hurdlers Candise Maxwell, Rachael Long and Christine Lowe will represent the Rebels in the hurdle events.
Friday's events will begin at 10 am (PT) with the women's hammer throw. The first running event will begin at 12:20 pm (PT) with the women's steeplechase finals.
