Maxwell On To NCAA Championships

Eugene, Ore. - UNLV women's track and field team has finished its weekend at the NCAA West Regional event hosted by the University of Oregon in Eugene, Ore. with one NCAA Championship qualifier.

Friday night the Rebels were able to see a few top performances as Candise Maxwell ran a 13.62 in the 100 meter hurdles to qualify for Saturday's finals. Maxwell took first in her preliminary heat. Maxwell went on to run in the finals taking fifth place with a time of 13.48, her best time of the season. This time qualified her for the NCAA Championships in the 100 meter hurdles.

Senior Lekeisha Lawson was involved in three event finals on Saturday as she ran in the 100 and 200 meter, along with the 4x100 meter relay. Lawson ran a 11.54 in the 100 meter finals taking sixth place. Then Lawson qualified for the finals in the 200 meter and place seventh running at a time of 23.86. Lawson has a chance for an at-large bid to the NCAA Championships in both of these events.

At-large bids will be announced on June 2 by noon. The UNLV 4x100 meter relay team was able to put together a sixth place finish with a time 45.80.

Next up for the Rebels is the NCAA Championships will on June 10-13 in Fayettville, Ark.
