LAS VEGAS - Five media guides and one poster produced during the last school year by UNLV athletics received national and regional honors, which were recently announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
The materials are annually judged by select members of the media and professionals from the printing industry.
The 2008 men's soccer guide, created by assistant SID Mark Wasik, earned sixth in the nation while Wasik's 2008-09 women's basketball publication garnered Best in District honors, while finishing 10th nationally.
The 2008-09 UNLV men's golf guide, created by media relations director Andy Grossman, took fifth in the nation while the school's women's volleyball guide, produced by sports information assistant Jeff Seals, earned second in the district and 16th in the nation.
The 2009 men's and women's tennis entry, created by associate director Mark Wallington, was named Best in Nation among all multi-sport guides.
UNLV also received CoSIDA Best Cover designations for the men's soccer guide and men's and women's swimming guide, both created by Wasik and graphic arts coordinator Paul Palmer. In addition, Palmer and assistant marketing director Chris Bonnell teamed up to produce an award-winning women's basketball poster, which ranked sixth nationally for all winter sports.
CoSIDA reported that the contest judging football guides was not completed for 2008 and no results are available. The Rebel grid guide had finished in the nation's top 10 in four of the previous six years.
UNLV's CoSIDA district is made up of schools from the states of California, Arizona, Alaska, Hawaii, Oregon, Utah, Washington, Idaho and Nevada. The organization has more than 1,800 members from across the U.S. and Canada.
