LAS VEGAS - UNLV cross country heads back to California this weekend, traveling to the 36th Stanford Cross Country Invitational, which is one of the top meets in the country and will be held at the Stanford Golf Course on Saturday morning.
The Rebels will be part of a strong field that features some of the best teams in the region, including No. 5 Stanford, UC Davis, Sacramento State, USC and Loyola Marymount among a field of nearly 40 teams. The women's race will begin at 11:30 a.m. (PT) and UNLV's runners will cover a 6,000-meter course
"This weekend's meet is going to be a real test for us," UNLV head coach Tony Houchin said. "Many of the region's top-ranked teams will be running. This is going to be our first real look at how we stack up against some pretty strong competition."
Houchin will have seven runners competing in the race, and they include senior Bailey Kuestermeyer, juniors Lucy Beuster and Shannon Simpson, and freshmen Courtney Allen, Lexie Bravo, Ali Motor and Lauren Petersen. This will be the second 6K race for the Rebels, as the season-opening Cal State Fullerton Invitational was also that distance.

This is the third of four regular season meets in California that the Rebels will run in before competing in the 2009 Mountain West Conference Championships on Oct. 31 in Provo, Utah.
