Stanford Invitational Results
PALO ALTO, Calif. - The UNLV women's cross country team finished 21st at the 36th Stanford Cross Country Invitational, which is one of the top meets in the country and was held at the Stanford Golf Course on Saturday morning.
Rebel junior Shannon Simpson paced the Rebels, finishing in 98th place with a time of 23:29 as UNLV accumulated 572 team points in the race.
Stanford earned the team title, as the hosts finished with 24 team points, running past second-place Cal, which had 100 team points. Tara Erdmann, who was running as an unattached runner, was the fastest individual, crossing the finish line of the 6K course in a time of 20:20.
UNLV junior Lucy Beuster finished 101st with a time of 23:31, and she was followed by freshman Lauren Petersen (116th, 23:58), senior Bailey Kuestermeyer (128th, 24:23) and freshman Courtney Allen (129th, 24:32) rounded out the top five. Also running for the Rebels were freshmen Ali Motor (134th, 24:55) and Lexie Bravo (144th, 27:22).
The Rebels were part of a strong field that featured some of the top teams in the region, including No. 5 Stanford, UC Davis, Sacramento State, USC and Loyola Marymount among a field of 22 teams.
This was the third of four regular season meets in California that the Rebels will run in before competing in the 2009 Mountain West Conference Championships on Oct. 31 in Provo, Utah. UNLV's last regular-season meet is the Bronco Invite, held in Santa Clara on Oct. 17.
