Complete Lumberjack Invitational Results

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. - The UNLV women's track and field team got its indoor season started in strong fashion, with 11 Rebels combining to post 13 top-four finishes Saturday at the Lumberjack Invitational held at the J. L. Walkup Skydome.

UNLV freshman Emily Blok didn't show any rookie jitters in her first collegiate meet, winning the 60-meter title with a time of 7.61 while finishing second in the 200 meters with a time of 25.04. Other Rebels who won events were Deja Edwards in the triple jump (39-0.00) and Bailey Kuestermeyer in the 3,000 meters (10:57.64). Kuestermeyer, a multi-sport athlete who has also lettered in cross country and swimming, added a second-place effort in the mile with a time of 5:15.67.

"We had success in all event areas but we still need to put in a lot of work," UNLV head coach Yvonne Scott. "This was our way to self evaluate before the remainder of the season, adjust some things and focus on the next step."

Rebel sophomore Amanda Bingson picked up where she left off following a record-breaking freshman campaign, finishing fourth in the weight throw with a distance of 49-5.50 while adding a ninth-place effort in the shot put (38-3.50). Bingson set the UNLV school record in the hammer throw during the outdoor season last year, qualifying for the 2008 NCAA West Regional in the process. Another freshman who had a strong debut was Kelsey Williamson, who finished third in the 400 meters with a time of 56.62.

Other UNLV highlights on the field included Stephanie Schafer finishing fourth in the high jump (5-1.00) and LaShante' Ellison finishing seventh in the weight throw (47-4.50). On the track Rachael Long finished third in the 100 meters (9.11), Sarah Muniz (11:27.28) and Lucy Beuster (11:37.83) finished third and fourth respectively in the 3,000 meters and Ali Motor came in third in the 800 meters (2:28.22). The 4x400 meter relay team consisting of Christine Lowe, Lindsay Roach, Blok and Williamson came in second with a time of 4:02.92

The Rebels were part of a field that included the host Lumberjacks, Arizona and several unattached athletes who competed in the all-day meet. UNLV's next meet is two weeks from now, with the team traveling to the Lobo Challenge, which is Jan. 29-30 in Albuquerque, N.M.
