LAS VEGAS - UNLV's Kier Maitland was named the Mountain West Conference Men's Co-Swimmer of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday. It's Maitland's second weekly honor of the season, and the third by a Rebel this year.
Maitland, a junior and native of Edmonton, Alberta, claimed four individual wins this weekend in a pair of home conference dual meet victories over Wyoming and Air Force. He swept the 500 and 1000 free events against Wyoming on Jan. 15, swimming times of 4:32.60 and 9:19.12, respectively. Against Air Force on Jan. 16, Maitland posted winning times of 4:33.27 in the 500 free and 15:36.94 in the 1650 free. Maitland currently ranks in the top-15 in the nation in all three events.
The UNLV men, ranked 23rd in the nation with a 6-1 overall record, and the Rebel women return to action on Saturday with a meet at UC Santa Barbara with a 1 pm start time.
