LAS VEGAS - Enjoying beautiful winter weather for the first time this week, the 41st-ranked UNLV women's tennis team won the first match of a scheduled doubleheader 5-2 over former Big West Conference-rival Pacific Saturday at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.

The Lady Rebels improved to 2-0 while the Tigers fell to 1-1.

UNLV began the morning by sweeping three doubles matches to earn a 1-0 lead. Kristina Nedeltcheva and Jana Albers won 8-4 at the top of the lineup; Alisa Razina and Anna Maskaljun won 8-3 on court two; and Nives Pavlovic and Adrienn Hidvegi took it 8-5 at the third position.

UNLV got three straight-set victories in singles play to clinch the overall win but UOP pushed the final trio of matches to third sets and won two of them.

Sweeping for the hosts were 44th-ranked Jana Albers, 6-1, 7-5, at No. 3; Adrienn Hidvegi 6-0, 6-3 at No. 4; and Anna Maskaljun, 6-3, 6-2 on court five. UOP got wins in long matches at spots two and six but in the only matchup of ranked players, No. 50 Nedeltcheva needed a super-tiebreaker to outlast No. 60 Jenifer Widjaja 6-4, 6-7, 1-0 (10-6) at the top of the lineup to earn her team's final point.

UNLV was scheduled to close out its weekend by facing Weber State on Saturday afternoon.
