LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV women's golf team heads east this week, traveling to Owasso, Okla. to compete in the Dale McNamara Invitational at the Patriot Golf Club. The three-day tournament kicks off Monday, Oct. 11 at 8 a.m.
"We are looking forward to the competition in Oklahoma," said head coach Amy Bush. "Our players are playing great golf and we are ready to win."
The tournament will play host to 16 teams, including five ranked among the top 50 of the latest Golfweek/Sagarin College Rankings: Oklahoma State (18), Oklahoma (20), Texas (25), UNLV (35) and Tulsa (41).
The Rebels entered the season ranked 38th and climbed to as high as 29th following top-10 finishes at both the UNM Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational and the prestigious Golfweek Conference Challenge last month.
Senior Therese Koelbaek is coming off a spectacular September, posting third place finishes in each of the first two tournaments in 2010-11. Koelbaek, the 19th-ranked golfer in the country according to Golfweek and Mountain West Conference's No. 1-ranked golfer, captured the conference's first Golfer of the Month honor, marking the fourth time in her career she has done so.
"Therese has a big golfing month ahead," added Bush. "She plays this week in Oklahoma, then hits the World Amateur Team Championships in Argentina and returns for our home tournament in late October. A win this week would be a great start for her."
Fellow senior Alejandra Guacaneme as well as junior Kristen Schelling, sophomore Ellis Keenan and freshman Katerina Prorokova round out the Rebel team that will compete in the three-day tournament.
Action is set to begin Monday, Oct. 11 at 8 a.m. and conclude Wednesday afternoon.
