Rebels Finish Eighth At MWC Meet

LARAMIE, Wyo. (UNLVRebels.com) -

The UNLV Rebels closed out their 2010 regular season with an eighth place showing and earned 216 points at the Mountain West Conference Cross Country Championships Friday morning in Laramie, Wyo. Lauren Petersen ran the fastest 6k for UNLV and finished 23rd with a time of 23:01.8 on the University of Wyoming's Jacoby Golf Course.

The New Mexico Lobos easily claimed the event for the third consecutive year by placing all five of its harriers within the top eight finishers including first, second and third. The Lobos' Natalie Gray, who was named the conference's women's athlete of the year, finished first with a time of 21:20.7 and was closely followed by two of her teammates, Sarah Waldron (21:32.9) and Ruth Senior (21:38.8), for second and third, respectively.

Colorado State finished 40 points behind New Mexico (20 points) for second place with a tally of 60 points. BYU, an eight-time MWC cross country champion, placed third with 72 points. Air Force took home fourth with 132 points, while Utah followed closely behind in fifth with 139 points. Wyoming was sixth (141 points), San Diego State seventh (214), UNLV eighth (216) and TCU was ninth (219).

Sarah Muniz was the second-highest Rebel finisher coming in 44th with a time of 24:14.4. Alison Bartosch finished 48th with a time of 24:19.8. Courtney Allen was 60th (25:38.9), Ali Motor placed 67th (27:14.6), Lucy Beuster followed in 69th (27:33.9) and Shannon Simpson rounded out the UNLV contingent 70th (29:01.9).
