DALLAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV men's golf team is in eighth place after the first day of play Monday at the 12-team Royal Oaks Intercollegiate, which is being played at Royal Oaks Country Club (par 71, 7,068 yards).
UNLV's 36-hole total is 4-over-par 572 after shooting a first-round 4-under 280, then a second-round 8-over 292. Iowa has a five-shot lead on the field at 17-under 551 after rounds of 8-under 276 and 9-under 275. Texas A&M is second at 12-under, followed by Arkansas at 4-under, Penn State and SMU at 3-under, Texas Tech at 1-under and Oklahoma is seventh at 2-over.
Iowa's Vince India shot two rounds of 5-under 66 and leads the field by two shots at 10-under 132. Texas A&M's Conrad Shindler is second at 8-under, followed by Aggie teammage Jordan Russell at 7-under.
UNLV junior Derek Ernst leads all Rebel players in a tie for 11th place at 3-under 139 after rounds of 5-under 66 and 2-over 73. Other Rebel players: freshman Blake Biddle is tied for 29th at 2-over 144 (72-72), senior Jeremiah Wooding is tied for 41st at 5-over 147 (72-75), junior Colby Smith is tied for 52nd at 7-over 149 (70-79) and freshman Karsten Majors is tied for 56th at 8-over 150 (78-72).
