LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV track and field team hosted its Scarlet & Gray Challenge Friday afternoon at Myron Partridge Stadium and Sheila Tarr Smith Field with the Gray team edging the Scarlet by three points, 46-43.
The two teams were tied up going into the final event before Ashley Henry secured the title for the eventual winners with a short-approach high jump of 5-7.75.
"I am excited about how this team is performing at this time of year," said head coach Yvonne Scott. "This shows how the team is developing as we go into the end of our offseason and get ready to compete. Our goal is to compete well in May and this is definitely giving us a lot of confidence as we go into the start of the season next month."
In the throwing events, Amanda Bingson had the best attempt in the hammer with a 211-5 effort, while Chelsea Cassulo finished first in both the discus (138-10) and shot put (43-6.5).
Emily Blok was first in the 300 meters with a time of 39.8 and also tied Lindsay Roach for the top spot in the 60 meters with identical times of 7.50.
Kelsey Williamson won the 500 meters with a time of 1:13.8.
Sarah Muniz claimed the 1200 meters race with a time of 3:55.0 and was only by one second better than Laura Affeld time of 3:56.0.
Zadia Bryant topped all triple jumpers with a short-approach distance of 37-3.75 followed closely by teammate Deja Edwards 37-3 effort.
The team opens its 2011 indoor campaign in Albuquerque, N.M., at New Mexico's Cherry & Silver Invitational on Jan. 21 and 22.
