MWC Says: Mehdi Did Not Bouras

Feb. 10, 2010

LAS VEGAS - UNLV super sophomore Mehdi Bouras has been named the Mountain West Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week for the first time, the league announced Wednesday.

The product of Paris, France, is the first Rebel other than former star Elliot Wronski to win the award since 2006. He went a combined 3-0 in singles and doubles over the weekend while helping the Rebels to victories over No. 68 New Mexico State and UC Riverside.

Against the Aggies on Friday, Bouras upset No. 56-ranked Jim Brouleau 7-6, 6-0 at the top of the singles lineup after he and partner Luca Barlocchi also defeated the duo of Gustave Diep and Eduardo Salas, 8-2, at the No. 1 doubles slot.

On Sunday, Bouras downed UC Riverside's John Park in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2, at the No. 1 position to improve to 17-7 on the year and help the Rebels earn their fifth consecutive victory.

The Rebels (5-1) are back in action on Friday when they host Idaho beginning with doubles at 2 p.m. at the Fertitta Tennis Complex. Admission is free of charge.

TCU's Katarina Tuohimaa and Wyoming's Sarah Summerfield shared the women's weekly award.
