SCHOFIELD BARRACKS, Hawaii - The No. 23 UNLV men's golf team shot a second-round 5-under-par 283 on Thursday and remains in third place at the John A. Burns Intercollegiate, which is being played at the par-72, 6,917-yard Leilehua Golf Course.
California shot an 8-under 280 during the second round and remains the team leader with a 36-hole total of 18-under 558, two shots ahead of Texas A&M, which shot 13-under on Thursday. UNLV is in third place at 14-under 562, four shots off the lead, while BYU shot 11-under Thursday and is fourth at 13-under 563. Arizona rounds out the top five at 8-under after a second-round 7-under 281.
California's Stephen Hale shot 1-under 71 to remain the individual leader at 8-under 136. UNLV's Derek Ernst is in second place, one shot back, after a 3-under 69 during the second round. There is a five-way tie for third at 6-under.
Other Rebel players: Brett Kanda shot a second-round 1-under 71 and is tied for 13th at 3-under 141, Kevin Penner shot 3-under 69 and is tied for 16th at 2-under 142, Jeremiah Wooding shot 2-over 74 and is tied for 26th at 1-under 143 and Colby Smith shot 3-over 75 and is tied for 44th at 3-over 147.
The tournament will conclude with 18 holes on Friday with a shotgun start beginning at 8 a.m. HST.
