LAS VEGAS - The 56th-ranked UNLV men's tennis team won its third straight match, 6-1, over Ball State in the opening of a doubleheader Friday at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.
The Rebels, who will close the day by taking on Weber State, improved to 8-6 overall while the Cardinals fell to 9-4.
The morning started with the hosts sweeping three doubles matches for one team point. Mehdi Bouras and Luca Barlocchi won 8-6 at the top position while Johannes Markel and Bernard Schoeman emerged victorious from a tiebraker, 8-7, on court two and Kasper Konyves and Attila Toth won 8-5 on court three.
In singles, UNLV won three straight-setters to clinch it and then took two super-tiebreakers for their final points.
Barlocchi won 6-4, 6-1 at No. 2; Toth won 6-2, 6-4 at No. 4 and Konyves won 6-4, 6-4 on court six. Markel prevailed 7-6, 4-6, 1-0 (10-5) at No. 3 and Charlie Alvardo outlasted his opponent 5-7, 7-6, 1-0 (15-13) at the fifth position.
