LAS VEGAS - Despite playing for the first time in two weeks and with their top player sitting out, the 34th-ranked UNLV women's tennis team won its eighth consecutive match with a 6-1 victory over Hawaii at the Fertitta Tennis Complex on Saturday.
The Lady Rebels improved to 11-2 overall while the Wahine fell to 2-11.
The morning began with the hosts taking two of three doubles points to earn a 1-0 lead. Alisa Razina and Anna Maskaljun won 8-4 at the second spot and Nives Pavlovic and Adrienn Hidvegi cruised 8-1 on court three.
Jana Albers, ranked 97th nationally, filled in for Kristina Nedeltcheva atop the singles lineup and posted a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Sophie Kobuch to improve her record to 15-8 overall. Pavlovic won 7-6, 6-2 at No. 2; Hidvegi upped her record to 17-5 with a 3-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-4) super-tiebreaker win at No. 3; Maskaljun rallied for a 4-6, 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 4 and Razina breezed to a 6-1, 6-1 win on court six.
UNLV is off again until opening Mountain West Conference play by hosting San Diego State on March 24 beginning at 2 p.m.
