Rebels In Land Of Troy

March 19, 2010

LAS VEGAS - After taking last weekend off, the UNLV women's track and field team will be back in action, competing in the Trojan Invitational at Loker Stadium on Saturday afternoon in Los Angeles, Calif.

While the majority of the meet officially gets underway at 9:00 a.m. (PT) on Saturday, Rebel sophomore thrower Amanda Bingson got things started in strong fashion, breaking the school record in the weight throw. It was the only event of the day on Friday, and she tossed the hammer a distance of 183-4.00, eclipsing her mark by more than two feet.

"That is a great way to get this meet started," UNLV head coach Yvonne Scott said. "The team is headed to the Trojan Invitational with some fire. It is still early in the outdoor season but I feel the team is really putting things together and we are expecting a very good weekend with a lot of improvements."

There are 714 entered athletes and 31 schools which will be represented at the meet, including the national power Texas women's team and Washington State. The hammer competition actually took place at Mt. SAC in Walnut, Calif.

This is the first of six consecutive weekends in which the Rebels will be competing in meets.
