LOS ANGELES - UNLV women's track and field saw several student-athletes advance to finals in their respective races on the opening day of the Cal-Nevada Championships, which is being held at Drake Stadium on the campus of UCLA. Also, while the majority of the Rebels are in Los Angeles, a pair of distance runners turned in very good times at the Stanford Invitational on Friday night.
Rebel senior Chauncey David-Jacobs turned in a pair of season-best times to move onto the finals in a two events, running a 55.63 in the 400 meters and 24.07 in the 200 meters. Shahnel Woodley also advanced to the finals in two events, clocking a time of 11.97 in the 100 meters and 24.57 in the 200 meters.
The other sprinter to earn a spot in the finals was freshman Kelsey Williamson, who ran a 55.96 in the 400 meters to join David-Jacobs in the finals on Sunday.
Also on the track Saturday, distance runner Lucy Beuster ran a personal-best time of 38:42.40 in the 10K, good for an 11th-place finish in the event.
A pair of Rebels also finished in the top 10 in the hammer on Saturday, as sophomore Amanda Bingson's toss of 180-4.00 earned her fifth, while LaShante Ellison turned in a personal-best of 167-9.00, good for ninth.
In the Bay Area of California on Friday night, UNLV senior Bailey Kuestermeyer ran a 16:44.61 in the 5,000 meters and Sarah Muniz ran a 10:57.48 in the steeplechase, and both marks are the second-fastest times in UNLV history respectively.
Sunday's action of the Cal-Nevada Championships gets underway at 11:00 a.m. (PT) and finals in the field events include the triple jump, women's high jump, shot put and discus. All the running events tomorrow will be finals, including both relay events.
