LAS VEGAS - The 71st-ranked UNLV men's tennis team rallied after losing the doubles point to defeat former Big West Conference-rival Pacific 5-2 Saturday at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.

The Rebels, who improved to 7-3 at home this season, upped their record to 7-6 overall while the Tigers fell to 3-5.

UOP began the day with a pair of 8-3 wins in doubles to take a 1-0 lead. UNLV did get a victory at the top of the lineup, however, as Mehdi Bouras and Luca Barlocchi won 8-6.

In singles play, the hosts earned four consecutive straight-set wins to clinch the overall match. Bouras improved his sophomore season record to 22-9 with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Ivan Castro at No. 1; Johannes Markel won 7-6, 6-4 at No. 3; Attila Toth won 6-3, 6-4 at No. 4; and Kasper Konyves swept his opponent 6-2, 6-4 on court six. The Rebels' final point came at the third position where Barlocchi came back and won with a super-tiebreaker 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-7).

"After Pacific won the doubles point easily, it was good to see everyone step up and get the job done in singles vs. an experienced team today." said UNLV head coach Owen Hambrook.

UNLV will look for a third straight win on Sunday when it hosts No. 70 Marquette. First serve is scheduled for 10 a.m. PT, weather permitting. Admission is free of charge.
