SAN DIEGO - The 36th-ranked UNLV women's tennis team stayed in contention for a share of the Mountain West Conference regular-season championship with a 7-0 neutral-site blanking of Colorado State on Friday.

Playing at the Aztec Tennis Center, the Lady Rebels improved their record to 18-3 overall and 5-1 in MWC play while the Rams fell to 6-13/1-6. UNLV, which posted its sixth shutout this semester, remains in second place in the league standings behind only 6-0 Utah, which will play two matches away from home this weekend.

UNLV began the morning in familiar fashion, winning the doubles point for the 18th time this season to post a 1-0 lead. Kristina Nedeltcheva and Jana Albers, ranked 75th, doubled up Laura Neal and Caitlin Fluegge 8-4 at the top of the lineup to extend Nedeltcheva's school record for career doubles wins to 94. Anna Maskaljun and Alisa Razina combined for an 8-2 victory on court two over Tori Arneson and Lauren Mulhern to improve their record to a team-leading 22-5 this season. Also, Nives Pavlovic and Adrienn Hidvegi won their match over Melissa Holzinger and Veronika Wojakowska 8-1 on court three.

In singles, Nedeltcheva cruised past Neal 6-0, 6-2 at the top position as the 49th-ranked senior continued to solidify her spot in third place in the UNLV record book with her 86th career singles victory. Albers, ranked 114th, downed Arneson 6-3, 6-0 at No. 2; Pavlovic won 6-1, 6-3 over Fluegge at No. 3; Hidvegi improved her dual-match record to a team-best 18-2 with a 6-0, 7-5 victory over Holzinger at No. 4; Maskaljun won 6-2, 6-1 over Mulhern at No. 5; and Rumyana Terzieva downed Wojakowska 6-1, 6-0 on court six.

UNLV will play the middle of its three weekend matches in San Diego when it takes on Wyoming Saturday beginning at 10 a.m.
