Final Stats
SAN DIEGO - The 36th-ranked UNLV women's tennis team won its fifth straight outing to stay in contention for a share of the Mountain West Conference regular-season championship with a 6-1 neutral-site victory over Wyoming on Saturday.
Playing at the Aztec Tennis Center, the Lady Rebels improved their record to 19-3 overall and 6-1 in MWC play while the Cowgirls fell to 12-7/3-3. UNLV remains in second place in the league standings - only one match behind undefeated Utah.
The Lady Rebels won the doubles point for the 19th time this season by sweeping three matches for a 1-0 advantage. Kristina Nedeltcheva and Jana Albers, ranked 75th, won 8-3 at the top of the lineup to extend Nedeltcheva's school record for career doubles wins to 95. Anna Maskaljun and Alisa Razina combined for an 8-5 victory on court two to improve their record to a team-leading 23-5 this season, while Nives Pavlovic and Adrienn Hidvegi won their match 8-5 on court three.
In singles, Nedeltcheva swept Sarah Summerfield 6-0, 6-4 at the top position as the 49th-ranked senior continued to solidify fourth place in the UNLV record book with her 87th career singles victory. Albers, ranked 114th, downed Alexandra Kovacs 6-2, 6-3 at No. 2; Pavlovic came back to win in a super-tiebreaker, 4-6, 6-1, 1-0 (10-2), over Simona Synkova at No. 3; Hidvegi improved her dual-match record to a team-best 19-2 when her opponent retired in the first set; and Maskaljun won 6-1, 6-2 over Kim van Ginkel on court five.
UNLV will complete its regular season on Sunday by facing Air Force in San Diego starting with doubles play at 10 a.m.
