PROVO, Utah - The 29th-ranked UNLV women's tennis team earned its first road victory of the season with a 4-3 win over rival BYU on Friday.
The Lady Rebels, who came into the day 0-3 away from Las Vegas, improved to 15-3 overall and 2-1 in Mountain West Conference play while the Cougars fell to 5-11/1-2.
UNLV used its depth all day, including winning a tight doubles point to start the match, which proved vital.
Anna Maskaljun and Alisa Razina teamed up for an 8-5 at the second position while Adrienn Hidvegi and Nives Pavlovic emerged victorious, 9-7, on court three to give the visitors a 1-0 lead.
The teams split six singles matches with BYU taking the top half and UNLV getting its points from the bottom half to seal it.
Hidvegi downed Elle Carney 6-3, 6-4 at No. 4; Maskaljun defeated Elizaveta Ezhova 6-0, 6-1 at No. 5; and Rumyana Terzieva blanked Andie Young 6-0, 6-0 on court six.
UNLV returns home to host New Mexico on Friday beginning with doubles play at 10 a.m. Admission is free of charge.
