LAS VEGAS - The 60th-ranked UNLV men's tennis team suffered a 4-3 defeat at the hands of No. 66 TCU in what was the Mountain West Conference opener for both schools on Friday at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.
The Rebels fell to 10-8 overall while the Horned Frogs improved to 7-7.
UNLV opened the day by winning two of three doubles matches to earn a 1-0 lead. Mehdi Bouras and Luca Barlocchi teamed up to upset 61st-ranked Emanuel Brighiu and Christopher Price at the top of the lineup, 8-6, while Johannes Markel and Bernard Schoeman won their match on court two by the score of 8-4.
The Rebels would eventually build a 3-2 lead after picking up singles wins by Attila Toth, 6-4, 6-4 over Soren Goritzka at the fourth position, and Bouras, 6-4, 3-6, 6-1 over Brighiu at the top spot. However, the Frogs won the final two matches to take the overall win.
Next up, UNLV hosts New Mexico on Friday beginning with doubles play at 2 p.m. Admission is free of charge.
