PROVO, Utah - The No. 11 UNLV men's golf team shot rounds of 5-over-par 293 and 1-under 287 on Friday and is tied for fifth at the PING Cougar Classic, which is being played at Riverside Country Club (par 72, 7,142 yards).
The Rebels' 36-hole total of 4-over 580 puts them in a tie with Nevada, Reno, 11 shots off the lead. Colorado State (285-284) holds the team lead after two rounds at 7-under 569, three shots ahead of host BYU (293-279), which is in second place at 4-under 572. Idaho (288-288) is third at even-par 576, while Augusta State (295-283) is in fourth at 2-over 578.
Augusta State's Patrick Reed shot rounds of 5-under 67 and 4-under 68 and has the individual lead by two shots at 9-under 135. There is a three-way tie for second at 7-under between UNR's Jared Becher, BYU's Robbie Fillmore and Colorado State's Bryce Hanstad.
The Rebels were led individually by Derek Ernst, who shot rounds of 1-under 71 and even-par 72 and is tied for 10th at 1-under 143.
Other Rebels: Colby Smith (72-72) is tied for 14th at even-par 144, Kevin Penner (73-72) is tied for 23rd at 1-over 145, Brett Kanda (77-71) is tied for 39th at 4-over 148 and Jeremiah Wooding (77-74) is tied for 57th at 7-over 151.
