First Time Hosts Open Wednesday

LAS VEGAS - Hosting the Mountain West Conference Men's Tennis Championship for the first time, the UNLV men are seeded sixth and open play Thursday vs. third-seed New Mexico at 9 a.m. PT at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.

The 71st-ranked Rebels, 12-11 overall and 2-4 in the MWC, are looking to win their first MWC tournament title since 2007. UNM is 8-11 and finished 3-3 in MWC play. UNLV defeated the Lobos 4-3 on April 9 in Las Vegas. The winner of the rematch will play in Friday's semifinals vs. the winner of San Diego State vs. Air Force. The men's final is scheduled for Saturday at 10 a.m.

UNLV is hosting both the men's and women's championships from Wednesday through Saturday. Tickets, which are available at the Fertitta box office beginning Wednesday, are priced at $10 per person for the entire tournament ($7 for kids 12 and under and seniors) or $5 per day ($3 kids and seniors).

MWC regular-season champion and 33rd-ranked BYU (21-5 overall) enters the 2010 MWC Men's Tennis Championship as the top seed after posting a perfect 6-0 mark in conference play this season. No. 62 San Diego State (11-12, 5-1 MWC) is the No. 2 seed and TCU (9-12, 3-3 MWC) the No. 4 seed. Utah (7-15, 2-4 MWC) won a head-to-head tiebreaker over UNLV and earned the No. 5 seed. Air Force (10-12, 0-6 MWC) rounds out the bracket as the No. 7 seed.
