SAN DIEGO - The No. 12 UNLV men's golf team shot a second-round 6-over-par 294 on Friday and is in third place at the 2010 NCAA Men's Golf San Diego Regional, which is being played at Carlton Oaks Golf Club (par 72, 7,360 yards).

UNLV matched its first-round score during the second round and sits at 12-over 588 after 36 holes - just four shots out of first place. Oregon leads the field at 8-over 584 after a second-round 2-over 290. California is in second place at 10-over after shooting 4-over on Friday. Augusta State is fourth at 13-over, Tennessee is fifth at 14-over and UCF is sixth at 20-over. Seventh through 13th-place scores range from 22-over to 30-over.

Cal State Northridge's Nick Delio, who is playing as an individual at the regional, has the individual lead at 4-under 140. He shot 3-under 69 on Friday after a first-round 1-under 71. UNLV senior Eddie Olson, who led the tournament after the first round at 4-under, is now tied for second, just one stroke back, at 3-under 141 after shooting 1-over 73 on Friday. Olson is tied with Oregon's Daniel Miernicki for second. There is a four-way tie for fourth place at even-par 144.

"I got off to a good start - a better start than yesterday," Olson said after he completed his second round. "I was steady for the beginning of the day, but made double (bogey) on 12, which hurt. But then I came right back with a birdie. (I) just didn't make as many putts as I did yesterday and obviously, this game is all about putting.

"Yesterday was the epitome of a good putting round. That was the difference - I had 26 putts yesterday and 31 or 32 today. It's a tough course where par isn't a bad score. I've been fortunate to make a bunch of birdies so far. I think tomorrow I need to make a few more putts if I'm going to help my team out and go for the individual title."

Other Rebel players: Colby Smith and Derek Ernst are both tied for 28th at 5-over 149. Smith shot 74 during the second round, while Ernst shot 75. Kevin Pnner is tied for 42nd at 7-over 141 after a second-round 72 and Brett Kanda is tied for 64th at 12-over 146 after shooting 79 on Friday.

The low five teams and low individual not on those teams will advance to the NCAA Championship finals.

The NCAA Regionals are made up of six 54-hole tournaments that are being conducted to determine the 30 qualifying teams and six individuals not on those qualifying teams who will advance to the finals. Thirteen teams and 10 individuals not on those teams are competing at each of three regionals, including San Diego, while the other three regionals have 14 teams and five individuals not on those teams.

The tournament will conclude with 18 holes on Saturday. UNLV is slated to begin the final round off the No. 1 hole with tee times scheduled every 10 minutes from 8:40-9:20 a.m. Live stats are available courtesy of Golfstat through a link on UNLVRebels.com.

The 2010 NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championship will be held June 1-6 at The Honors Course in Chattanooga, Tenn.
