May 27, 2010

LAS VEGAS -

UNLV women's track and field had just one student-athlete competing Thursday on the first day of the NCAA West Preliminary Round in Austin, Texas, and Chauncey David-Jacobs performed well at Mike A. Myers Stadium.

Running in the 400 meters she posted a time of 54.29 to advance to the quarterfinals, which will be Friday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. (PT). If David-Jacobs finishes in the top 12 she will advance to the NCAA Championships, which are June 9-12 at Hayward Field on the campus of the University of Oregon.

Also competing on Friday will be senior Candise Maxwell, who will run in the 100-meter hurdles while junior Sarah Muniz will be competing in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.

Saturday afternoon Bailey Kuestermeyer will run in the 10,000 meters while Amanda Bingson will look to advance to the NCAA Championships in the hammer throw. Bingson currently ranks second in the region with a distance of 210-2.00, which is the UNLV school record. Also hitting the track on Saturday will be the Rebels' 4x100 and 4x400 meter relay teams.
