George Kyte Invitational Results

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV Rebel cross country team finished in fifth place at Northern Arizona's George Kyte Invitational held at Buffalo Park in Flagstaff, Ariz. UNLV had a team total of 126 points and a time of 1:41:58.2 in the 5k race. Arizona won the Invite with 26 points and a winning time of 1:32:29.2.

Lauren Petersen led the Rebel harriers with a fifth-place showing with a time of 18:45.3. Petersen finished 1:21.2 behind Arizona's Elvin Kibet, who won the race with a 17:24.1 showing.

"This is a great start to the season," noted Tony Houchin, UNLV cross country head coach. "Lauren (Petersen) finishing in the top five against some stiff competition bodes well for the future. I only expect us to get better and improve from this point."

Alison Bartosch was 20th, as she crossed the finish line in 19:52.0. Sarah Muniz was 29th with a time of 20:30.5, Courtney Allen was 39th with a time of 21:02.5, Lucy Beuster was 51st with a time of 21:47.9, Alison Motor was 64th with a time of 22:43.3, Samantha Swan was 68th with a time of 22:59.4 and Jamie Fratto was 74th with a time of 23:31.8.

The top four teams had an Arizona flavor to it, as Arizona was first, Arizona State second (42 points), Central Arizona College third (79 points) and host Northern Arizona fourth (109 points). UNLV, Pima CC, West Florida, Glendale CC, Grand Canyon and Western New Mexico rounded out the top-10 field from fifth to 10th.

The team returns to action on Sept. 18, when they participate at the UC Riverside Invitational in Riverside, Calif.
