The UNLV Rebels closed out the first weekend of their indoor track and field season Saturday at the Cherry & Silver Invitational hosted by New Mexico at the Albuquerque Convention Center. Kelsey Williamson highlighted the Rebels efforts with the second-fastest time posted in the 400m with a 55.88 showing.
"The Invitational was a good opener for the team," said head coach Yvonne Scott. "It was more of an opportunity for them to compete and see what we need to work on in the next few weeks. We still have work to do."
Deja Edwards finished seventh in the triple jump with a distance of 37-09.50 (11.52m).
Chelsea Cassulo and Amanda Bingson threw 41-02.25 (12.55m) and 38-06.25 (11.74m), respectively, in the shot put just a day after throwing NCAA provisional qualifying marks in the weight throw yesterday.
In the 800m, Brett Zorich ran the fifth fastest time of 2:21.42, while Laura Affeld finished seventh in 2:23.14.
The Rebels also had participants compete in the 60m, 60m Hurdles and the 3000m.
The squad returns to action next weekend (Jan. 28-29) in Boise, Idaho at the Boise State Invitational.
