LAS VEGAS - The 66th-ranked UNLV men's tennis team completed a double-header sweep on Sunday by downing visiting Northern Arizona 6-1 at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.
The Rebels improved to 2-1 on the young season after also defeating Weber State earlier in the day.
UNLV took all three doubles matches to earn a 1-0 lead. Mehdi Bouras and Bernard Schoeman won 8-4 at the top of the lineup, Alex Bull and Rene Ruegamer won 8-2 at No. 2 and Tomas Batyi and Willie Sublette prevailed 8-1 on court three.
In singles play, the hosts got points from Ruegamer, who won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2; Batyi, who won 6-2, 6-3 at No. 3; Bull, who won 7-6, 6-2 at No. 4; Kasper Konyves, who won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 5; and Sublette, who took a super-tiebreaker on court six, 6-3, 4-6, 1-0 (10-7).
"Good to get through what was a long day of tennis," said UNLV head coach Owen Hambrook. "We competed well, even with a couple of the guys battling the flu. Now we have to get ready for two tough matches away from home."
Next up, UNLV travels to Fayetteville, Ark., to take on the host Razorbacks on Friday and SMU on Saturday.
