Men's Basketball

MWC Opener Wednesday

Jan. 4, 2011

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The No. 25 UNLV men's basketball team recorded a 12-2 non-conference mark after closing the first portion of its season with a 73-47 win over Central Michigan at the Thomas & Mack Center on Dec. 30. The Runnin' Rebels' "second season" begins this week as they open Mountain West Conference play against No. 15/14 BYU (14-1) on Wednesday, Jan. 5 at 7 p.m. at the Thomas & Mack Center. It is believed to be the first time in school history that a ranked Runnin' Rebel team will open league play against another ranked team. It is also the first time UNLV and BYU will face each other as ranked teams since the 2007 MWC Tournament championship game and is the earliest meeting between nationally ranked conference members in the 12-year history of the MWC (just the fifth overall). Wednesday's game will be nationally televised on CBS College Sports with Ted Robinson and Steve Lappas calling the action. Jon Sandler and Robert Smith will handle the radio call, which may be heard in Las Vegas on ESPN Radio 1100 AM/98.9 FM. It is also available at UNLVRebels.com through the subscription-based All-Access feature. Recycled Percussion will perform at halftime.
