LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - All of host UNLV's main draw entries lost Saturday at the Larry Easley Memorial Classic, which is being played at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.
Tamas Batyi fell to 70th-ranked Andreas Mies of Auburn 6-3, 6-2 in the singles semifinals while the doubles team of Bernard Schoeman and Rene Ruegamer lost in the quarterfinals, 8-2, to Nicholas Zogaj and Jovan Parlic of Arkansas. Also, UNLV's Alex Bull and Johannes Markel withdrew from the quarterfinals.
The finals are set for 10 a.m. Sunday.
Players from eight other programs are competing in the individual event: Arkansas, Auburn, Fresno State, UC Irvine, Utah, San Diego State, New Mexico and NAU.
The annual tournament was renamed last year in honor of UNLV Hall of Famer Larry Easley, who passed away from illness in 2005 at the age of 57. Easley coached the UNLV men's tennis team longer than anyone in history and produced sometimes-spectacular results over his dozen seasons from 1993-2002, including producing five All-Americans and two NCAA individual champions.
