VESTAVIA HILLS, Ala. (UNLVRebels.com) - The No. 11 UNLV men's golf team shot a final-round 13-over 293 on Tuesday and finished in sixth place at the at the 12-team Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate, which was played at Old Overton Golf Club (par 70, 7,204 yards).
The Rebels' 54-hole total was 29-over 869. Texas claimed the team title at 4-under 836 after a final-round 7-over 287. Host Alabama (291) tied with Clemson (292) for second place at 16-over 856. Auburn shot a final-round of 7-over to finish fourth at 24-over, while UAB rounded out the top five after a final-round of 12-over to finish at 27-over for the tournament.
Clemson's Corbin Mills shot a final-round 3-under 67 to win individual medalist honors at 9-under 201, two shots ahead of Texas' Dylan Frittelli. UNLV senior Derek Ernst shot 1-over 71 on Tuesday and finished in third place at 4-under 206.
Other UNLV players: freshman Carl Jonson finished tied for 21st at 9-over 219 after a final-round 76, sophomore Blake Biddle finished tied for 24th at 10-over 220 after a final-round 69, junior Kevin Penner finished tied for 46th at 17-over 227 after a final-round 80 and sophomore Nicholas Maruri finished 58th at 25-over 235 after a final-round 77. There were a total of 60 individuals.
The Rebels will be back in action Oct 24-25 at the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate in Las Cruces, N.M.
