LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV men's basketball program received signed national letters of intent from Katin Reinhardt, Daquan Cook and Demetris Morant on the first day of the early signing period, head coach Dave Rice announced Wednesday. Reinhardt, Cook and Morant will all enroll at UNLV next fall as freshmen.
Reinhardt is a 6-foot-5-inch, 195-pound senior guard from Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana, Calif. Rivals.com has the four-star recruit ranked as the 45th-best player overall in the 2012 class and No. 7 at his position. Scout.com has him 55th overall and 13th at his position, while ESPN has him ranked No. 60 overall and 13th at his position. Reinhardt led his team to a 32-3 record last year as it won the California state championship.
"Katin is an electrifying player and a winner," Rice said. "He greatly values team and is a prolific scorer that has the ability to make plays for his teammates on both ends of the court. His experience playing at Mater Dei and for Coach Gary McKnight has been a huge factor in his development."
Cook is a 6-foot-1-inch, 170-pound senior point guard from St. Frances Academy in Baltimore, Md. As a junior last season, he averaged 21 points, seven rebounds and six assists per game to earn Baltimore Sun second-team All-Metro honors. He was also named Most Valuable Player of the 16-and-under Super Showcase in Orlando, Fla., in July.
"Daquan will be a terrific point guard in our Runnin' Rebel system," Rice said. "He is a fearless competitor and has a great feel for making his teammates better. He is a team-oriented point, but he is also a very capable scorer. He will be a key member of the St. Frances team for Coach Nick Myles."
Morant is a 6-foot-9-inch, 200-pound senior forward from Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas. As a junior for the Gaels, he averaged eight points, five rebounds and three blocks per game. He is ranked by Rivals.com as the 41st-best player in the 2012 class at his position and is ranked at No. 150 overall.
"Demetris brings great athleticism and ability to our program," Rice said. "He is a terrific athlete that can finish plays above the rim and can also face the basket and score on jump shots and drives. Demetris is a high-level defender whose work ethic and ability to block shots affects the game. He is a big part of the success at Bishop Gorman for Coach Grant Rice.
"We are really excited to be adding these extremely talented student-athletes to our team. We feel great about their character and their commitment to be Runnin' Rebels. They understand our vision for our program and they will be an integral part of our future success."
