2011 Scarlet & Gray Challenge Results | Video Interview
The UNLV track & field team hosted its Scarlet & Gray Challenge Friday at Myron Partridge Stadium and Sheila Tarr-Smith Field with the Scarlet claiming a 17-point victory by a 176-159 score in the intrasquad meet.
The Scarlet squad won nine of 12 events, including all six contested on the track. The six field events were split down the middle with each team winning three. The Scarlet won the weight throw, long jump and shot put, while the Gray countered with wins in the triple jump, hammer throw and high jump.
"This annual Challenge is a great way for our team to come out and get those competitive juices flowing before the start of the indoor season," said head coach Yvonne Scott. "It also allows us a chance to evaluate where they are in their training and what adjustments we need to make."
Emily Blok was the only Rebel to claim victories in three events, two as an individual and one as a member of a relay team. Blok claimed wins in the 300m (38.7) and the 60m (7.3), and was joined by Christine Lowe, Erin Morris and Kelsey Williamsonin the relay (3:52.6).
Morris and Williamson picked up wins in other track events, as well. Morris took first in the 60m hurdles (8.6), while Williamson was tops in the 500m (1:15.6). Lauren Petersenrounded out the Scarlet's take from the track with her 1200m victory in a time of (3:47.7).
Danielle Rios (weight throw, 16.78m), Deja Edwards (long jump, 5.38m) and Adriana Oliva (shot put, 13.22m) were winners for the Scarlet on field. The Gray picked up field wins from Zadia Bryant (triple jump, 11.60m), Amanda Bingson (hammer throw, 72.91m) and Ashley Henry (high jump, 1.63m).
