LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - For the sixth time this season and the third in the last four weeks, a UNLV swimmer has been named the Mountain West Conference Swimmer of the Week as Kier Maitland picked up his second honor of the season the league office announced on Tuesday.
A native of Edmonton, Alberta, Maitland claimed three wins over Utah on his Senior Day to lead the Rebels to a 179.5-111.5 victory on Jan. 29. That win gave UNLV a perfect MWC dual meet season, wrapping up the team's third all-time regular season championship.
Maitland won the day's first event, the 1000 free, in a time of 9:31.40, and followed that up just minutes later by winning the very next event, the 200 free, touching the wall in 1:40.52. He would add a third win later in the meet, placing first in the 500 free in 4:32.60.
UNLV returns to action at the 2011 Mountain West Conference Championships, held on Wednesday-Saturday, Feb. 23-26 in Oklahoma City, Okla..
