LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV men's tennis team split singles play but fell short in doubles en route to falling to No. 57 Oklahoma State, 4-3, on Friday at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.
The Rebels dropped to 8-4 as they saw their four-match winning streak snapped.
UNLV won only one of three doubles matches as the Cowboys took a 1-0 lead. Tamas Batyi and Kasper Konyves prevailed for the hosts at the second position, 8-7.
In singles play, the Rebels swept the top three matches.
Senior Mehdi Bouras, ranked 76th, rallied past Maniel Bains 2-6, 6-2, 6-2; Batyi upset 115th-ranked Vladislov Bondarenko 6-3, 6-1 at No. 2; and Rene Ruegamer held on to down Refat Birtyahova 6-4, 2-6, 6-3.
"This was a good, hard-fought tennis match, unfortunately we couldn't get the doubles point, and that was the difference." said UNLV head coach Owen Hambrook. "Now we have a quick turnaround to get ready for UC Irvine."
UNLV returns to action Sunday when it hosts the Anteaters beginning with doubles play at 1 p.m. Admission is free of charge.
