LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - After participating in four previous meets, the UNLV Rebels will travel to Albuquerque for the 2011 Mountain West Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships beginning Thursday, Feb. 24 through Saturday, Feb. 26. This will be the fourth time in the 12-year history of the league that the MWC Championships will be held at the Albuquerque Convention Center.
The meet kicks off Thursday morning with the pentathlon. Talyah Polee and Taylar Mills will participate in the event for UNLV.
Chelsea Cassulo and Amanda Bingson enter the weight throw as favorites ranking first and second in the conference, respectively. Cassulo took the top spot in the event with a distance of 64-8.00 (19.71m). Bingson followed closely behind with a throw of 63-5.00 (19.33m). The two distances rank first and second in program history in the weight throw.
Ashley Henry looks to better her high jump mark of 5-10.00 (5.78m), which tied the best mark recorded in the Rebel record book.
Cassulo and Henry have had previous success in Albuquerque this season. Both of their high marks were achieved on the first day of the New Mexico's Cherry & Silver Invitational on Jan. 21.
Deja Edwards will compete in the long and triple jump events.
Emily Blok and Kelsey Williamson will lead the team's sprinters on the track. Blok will compete in the 600m and 200m, while Williamson is entered in the 200m and 400m. Blok and Williamson comprise half of UNLV's 4x4 relay squad.
The Rebels will have three participants in the 800m: Brett Zorich, Laura Affeld and Alison Bartosch.
Lauren Petersen will run the 3000m.
In all, UNLV will have 22 student-athletes participating in the three-day affair.
