ALBUQUERQUE (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV Rebels finished seventh overall at the 2011 MWC Indoor Track & Field Championships that concluded on Saturday in Albuquerque. UNLV amassed a total of 39 points, which was the highest total for the program since the 2005 squad earned 51. BYU claimed its 10th title in 12 years with 181.50 points.
"Although we are disappointed that our team standing was not what we hoped for, we are excited about a number of great individual performances," said head coach Yvonne Scott. "We will build off of that momentum going into the outdoor season and get back to the drawing board. We have work to do, but we will be ready in May."
The Rebels were led by Emily Blok, who finished fourth and fifth in the 60m (7.51) and 200m (24.05), respectively. Blok set a personal-best in the 60m, just one day after doing the same Friday in the preliminaries.
Blok was also part of the fifth-place 4x400m relay team that finished with a final time of 3:45.72. She was joined by teammates Lindsay Roach, Brett Zorich and Kelsey Williamson.
Williamson also participated in the 400m and placed eighth with a personal-best time of 55.66.
In the high jump, Ashley Henry was fourth with a distance of 5-8.00 (1.73m).
UNLV now readies for the outdoor season, which begins next weekend at Myron Partridge Stadium/Sheila Tarr-Smith Field. The Rebels will host the UNLV Track Classic scheduled for March 4-5. The hammer throw will be the only event contested on March 4.
