LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV men's tennis team reached double figures in wins this season with a 4-2 victory over No. 58 Arkansas at the Fertitta Tennis Complex on Sunday. The Rebels completed a clean sweep of the SEC opponent as they also won 5-2 over the Razorbacks in Fayetteville back on Jan. 28.

UNLV improved to 10-5 on the season and now has five victories vs. teams currently part of the ITA rankings. Arkansas fell to 3-5.

Enjoying perfect weather conditions, the Rebels got out to a strong start in doubles, winning both completed matches for a 1-0 lead. Mehdi Bouras and Bernard Schoeman won 8-6 over Matt Hogan and Matt Walters at the top spot while Alex Bull and Rene Ruegamer won by the same score on court three over Chris Nott and Gregoire Lehmann. Tamas Batyi and Kasper Konyves were leading their match at the second position, 7-6, when it was halted.

Moving to singles play, the Hogs quickly tied it up with a win at No. 4 before Bouras, ranked 76th, continued his torrid play by sweeping Hogan 6-2, 6-4 at the top of the lineup. Arkansas tied it again with a straight-set win at No. 2 while the final three matches turned into grinders. Ruegamer got by Lehmann at No. 3 by the score of 6-0, 4-6, 7-5, and then fellow-sophomore Bull clinched it for the home team with a 6-4, 0-6, 6-4 victory over Ward on court five. The final match was then halted.

"After winning a closely contested doubles point, we had to battle for every point in singles," said UNLV head coach Owen Hambrook. "Arkansas is a solid, well-coached program and we had our hands full today."

UNLV will now hit the road for the next five matches, starting with a neutral-site matchup with Nebraska in Denver on Friday beginning at 11 a.m. PT.
